FrogCode is a private coding agent for the xAI API. It reads your project, edits files, and runs commands in the folder you start it in. One binary, your own key, nothing in between.

Install

One line. One binary.

The install script picks the right build, checks its SHA256, and puts frog on your PATH. Nothing else lands on your machine.

1Paste into a terminal. Installs frog to ~/.local/bin.
2Run frog in a project folder and paste an xAI API key from console.x.ai, or type friend.
3Describe the change. frog update later updates the binary in place.

The install script verifies every download against SHA256SUMS before it puts anything on your PATH.

What you get

✓A single static binary. No Node, Python, or package manager required. PowerShell 5.1 and Windows Terminal work out of the box.
✓Your key stays local in ~/.frogcode/config.json with user-only permissions.
✓frog update fetches the next release from this site and swaps the binary in place.
✓Uninstall by deleting the install folder. There is nothing else to clean up.

How it works

A lean loop around a strong model.

No planners, no hidden extra model calls, no memory layer. The model reads your code with plain tools and shows every step it takes.

Bring your own key

Paste a key from console.x.ai once. It is stored with user-only permissions and sent to api.x.ai and nowhere else.

Reads, edits, runs

Seven plain tools: read, glob, grep, write, edit, shell, and web. Exact-string edits and exit codes you can see, all inside the folder you started in.

Agent, plan, or ask

/plan and /ask are read-only. --safe asks before destructive commands. By default the frog just does the work.

Chats you can find again

frog ls searches past chats by text or folder. frog resume picks up where you left off, and /rewind goes back a step.

FrogCode 0.2.13: the two terminals on the website no longer type by themselves. They sit quietly like a real idle frog session until you click in and press a key, which is when the frog takes your order, so it is an easter egg now instead of a slideshow. Long orders wrap inside the prompt box instead of running off the right edge, at every width from phones up. The hero's orders are short and shameless ("build me the greatest webgame of all time", "build the perfect music app make no mistakes" …) and each ends with the frog deploying one of the eight Froschteich apps (Pocket Pets, PondSong, FrogNotes, ClipFrog, Frogpond Home, Pond Share, LilyChat, Wavelength), link included; the friends terminal's little session is just as plain. The CLI itself is unchanged.

Friend access

No key? Friends of Froschböleli code on the house.

The owner's Grok key stays on this server. Your terminal only ever holds a token the owner can revoke.

Get invited
The owner adds your email in the admin panel. Signing up with that email activates you right away. Anyone else can request access and wait for approval.

Sign in once
Run frog login --friend, or type friend at the key prompt. Your browser opens a confirmation page with a short code.
3
Confirm, then code
Approve the code with your Froschteich account. The terminal picks up its token, switches to friend mode, and you are in.
